Co-operatives UK has responded to the 'straw man' proposals currently under discussion in the Group. In a paper authored by by
Helen Barber and Ed Mayo, with input from Professor Johnston Birchall, a strong case is made for a board selected by elected representatives rather than by board members. The paper points out that the nominations committee proposed in the straw man is made up exclusively of board and executive members, whereas Myners proposed that there should be elected (NMC) members - albeit in a minority. Co-operatives UK repeats the call it made in 'Myners Plus' for the nominations committee to be a subcommittee of the council, with a majority of council members.
