Co-op Local Forum meeting 26 September

Saturday 26 September 2015 marked our first meeting as an 'official' Co-operative Local Forum.

We had an excellent turnout (20) - even though the Co-op was unable to provide any support in contacting local members. Colleagues attended from Wilbraham Road store and the Funeralcare hub.

The meeting heard how Chorlton and Whalley Range cluster is now a 'Co-operative Local Forum' (CLF) in a trial scheme along with 36 others across the UK. This meant electing a 'member pioneer' to co-ordinate the group and liaise with the Co-op and other CLFs. The Co-op Group is providing a small amount of funding and the member pioneer will be paid an honorarium.

Jim King who sits on the National Member Council took the chair to run a mini-election - you can just see Jim at the left of the picture. There were two candidates so a vote was required. Shaun Fensom was elected.

There was then a quick update on the three themes with the meeting breaking down into groups:

  • The products group has its new priorities survey on line and decided to visit stores and get people to complete the survey on paper.
  • The local co-ops group has made contacts with the Co-op College with a view to organising activities in the local schools. There is an opportunity to exhibit at the MMU Community Open Day at Birley where a new store is opening.
  • The Hardy Lane meeting rooms group is lookin g at ways to improve the rooms.
